It is only a matter of a few days and we will have Apple taking wraps off the new iPhone models. The lineup will have the usual iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone 15 Pro models but the iPhone 15 Pro Max is tipped to be renamed to the iPhone 15 Ultra. While it may or may not happen, the rumour mill is surely consistent about Apple releasing an iPhone Ultra model eventually. Now, a fresh leak has claimed we may see an iPhone Ultra model with support for a particular Vision Pro feature.
Capture Apple Vision Pro Spatial Photos and Videos with iPhone
An unnamed Weibo account with a “proven track record” has been cited by MacRumors folks to report a new iPhone Ultra leak. It claims Apple may release an iPhone Ultra model with the ability to capture Vision Pro spatial photos and videos. Such an iPhone is expected to arrive after the Vision Pro launch which is scheduled for early 2024.
The report says the iPhone Ultra model will “lead the market to rethink what kind of photos and videos a mobile phone should take.” The exact details regarding how this new iPhone capability would work are currently missing. It is likely that Apple will have to go for more cameras and sensors to achieve the goal.
The Vision Pro utilizes Apple’s first three-dimensional camera to capture spatial photos and videos. The company is describing these photos and videos as a way of making memories come alive.
The official announcement blog post reads, “Every spatial photo and video transports users back to a moment in time, like a celebration with friends or a special family gathering. Users can access their entire photo library on iCloud, and view their photos and videos at a life-size scale with brilliant colour and spectacular detail. Every Panorama shot on iPhone expands and wraps around the user, creating the sensation they are standing right where it was taken.”
While the possibility of capturing spatial photos and videos on an iPhone is likely to be tempting for anyone with a Vision Pro, we would suggest not getting too excited just yet. This is just an early rumour with a possible late-2024 release timeline which is plenty of time. A lot of things can change in the meantime regarding Apple’s vision and production cycle.
Another thing to keep in mind is that even if such an iPhone Ultra releases, it could turn out to be really expensive which would put it out of reach for the majority of the iPhone fans. We will have to wait and see how this particular rumour pans out in the future.
