Apple started pre-orders of iPhone 15 series smartphones on September 15, 2023. The Cupertino giant will start shipping the smartphones on September 22 worldwide. Interestingly, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have registered a gigantic demand in the pre-orders, pushing the smartphone’s waiting period up to two months. Mark Gurman reported a delay of up to 8 weeks in significant markets, including India, China, the US and Canada.
The vanilla iPhone 15 series smartphones also face delays of up to 2 weeks in various markets. The newly launched iPhone 15 series is the first iPhone to debut with a USB Type-C port. We at MySmartPrice recently spotted the battery capacity and wattage of the newly debuted iPhone series in the Chinese regulatory database. A Macrumors report revealed the USB Type-C port functionalities that debuted on the new iPhones.
iPhone 15 Series USB Type-C Port Functionalities
The support document shared by Apple reveals that all iPhone 15 series smartphones can charge AirPods, Apple Watch, or another small device that supports USB Power Delivery. The document adds that smartphones can charge these devices up to 4.5 watts.
The USB Type-C port offers 15 times more output than the Lightning port’s 0.3 watts output. The increase in power output helps users power their most accessories on the go without needing any external source.
During the launch, Apple revealed that the iPhone 15 Pro models support USB 3.2 standard. The support document divulges that the smartphones support data transferring up to 10Gbit per second. However, Apple ships the smartphones with a lower spec USB 2-supported cable.
The users must buy additional USB-3-supported cables to transfer data at maximum speeds. The document adds that the iPhone 15 series uses the DisplayPort to support video mirroring up to 4K 60Hz HDR videos. The users can mirror contents to an external display with a USB Type-C to DisplayPort cable that supports USB 3.1 speeds or above.
Apple also supports mirroring contents to an HDMI Display or TV with a USB-C to HDMI adapter or cable. Apple’s USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter can output the contents in HDR10 or Dolby Vision if the external display or TV supports the same.
Apple has included support for iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max smartphones for recording ProRes videos directly to external storage at 4K 60Hz resolution. The technology will help many vloggers shoot their vlogs without any disruptions concerning storage.
The USB Type-C port also connects iPhones to CarPlay-compatible cars using a USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable. A Japanese publication revealed that the vanilla iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 series smartphones support 27W fast charging tech.
There were some previous rumours that the Pro models might support 35W fast charging tech. Another report revealed that Apple will introduce a maximum battery charge limit on the newly debuted iPhone series. 9to5Mac has spotted references to the battery charge limit feature in the upcoming iOS 17.
